[Audio] Presentation by Zonta Infratech on rehabilitation of municipal solid waste dumpsite at Brahmapuram, Kochi.

[Audio] Rehabilitation of the existing dumpsite by adopting bio-mining and capping methods to manage the existing legacy waste spread over 40.24 acres as per prevailing SWM Rules, 2016. It is proposed to recover about 80% of land by adopting bio-mining and capping methods. Further, the rejects from the bio-mining process and waste with no value shall be capped as per SWM Rules 2016..

[Audio] The waste spread areas are divided into 7 sectors. The quantification of waste was conducted by the National Institute of Technology, Calicut on the 8th and 9th of February 2021 through a drone survey. The total legacy waste spread area in the Brahmapuram Dumpsite was found to be 40.25 Acres and the total quantity of the waste assessed is around 5,51,903 Cum..

[Audio] The total Area of 40.24 acres is divided into 7 sectors and the waste in each sectors have been listed. The total quantity of waste is five lakh fifty one thousand and nine hundred three cubic metre.

[Audio] The flowchart of biomining process is explained here. The dumpsite is first excavated and stabilized by spraying bio-cultures or inoculum. It is then transferred for biomining once stabilized. After Bio-mining the legacy waste is segregated into three fractions, namely rejects, Good Earth and RDF..

[Audio] This is an overview of the dates in the project. Bio-mining commenced on 21st January 2022, and four sectors have been cleared from legacy waste on March end..

[Audio] We are using two high performance machines for bio-mining. Both having a processing capacity of 120 tons per hour..

[Audio] Baling Machine is expected to reach site by end of August and Baling of RDF will commence from September. We are waiting for an electricity connection to energize the Baling machine. KMC has already taken steps and the transformer is already at site (The transformer has the reached site and installation, and other associated works are progressing).
