Scene 1 (0s)

[Audio] Good day my Sec 2, welcome back to our Sec 2 D&T lesson. Last year, during your D&T lesson, you had made a beautiful tealight holder. We hope that you found joy in designing and making your holder..

Scene 2 (17s)

[Audio] In a D&T class, you are a designer. The design process which you went through last year is the central to the learning experiences in D&T. You will continue to use it this year to guide your design thinking process. The design process guides the act of conceptualising and creating design solutions that are practical and appropriate in everyday life. It is a set of stages which will take you from a design opportunity to a product solution to address user needs based on a real-world context..

Scene 3 (52s)

[Audio] There are many things around us that have been designed to make our life better, easier, more comfortable or even more enjoyable..

Scene 4 (1m 8s)

[Audio] But in the midst of designing, we must make sure that our design do not just look good but also serves it purpose and function well for its user. D&T is about how things can be made to work well and look good together..

Scene 5 (1m 24s)

[Audio] As a designer, we need to have the knowledge about the type of materials, tools and technologies to make the product efficiently and safe for the user. Knowing is not sufficient, we need to know how to use it effectively. To make product appealing to the user, we need to work on improving the aesthetics of the appearance of the product. We shall constantly include and refine the shape, form, colour, texture, pattern, proportion and balance in our design..

Scene 6 (1m 55s)

[Audio] Firstly, Attendance. As our curriculum is short and your D&T teacher will only meet you once a week for lesson, every lesson is important so that you know what and how to continue with your learning. Your attendance is important because if you are not in school, what can your D&T teacher teach you. Should you be absent from school, do keep your D&T teacher posted and also to checked with your classmates what had been covered during your absence. Be proactive and follow-up with your work. Should you have problem, be proactive to ask your D&T teacher for help. Secondly, Attitude. You attitude during lesson is important. Your attitude towards your work is important. Be an active and engaged learner and always be ready to share ideas. Be punctual in your work submission so that your teacher will be able to check and guide you in your work. Feedback from teachers are important for your learning so that you can be better and better. Thirdly, Attentiveness. There are always distraction and how to you tame down these distractions to learn for yourself. Try! You are the one in control of your mind. But I am sure everyone wants to learn and will learn well if they try. With these 3As, I hope all of your will As in D&T..

Scene 7 (3m 24s)

[Audio] So much so for the recapping the importance ideal of D&T, let us now take a look at how you can be an active and engaged learner in the course of D&T. As what was shared in Sec 1, the 3As are still expected of you and I am sure you will lived up to the expectations. This slide outlines the focus for the course. Something new for all of you will be prototyping (making) using plastic, wood, metal and basic electronic. Last but least, your safety is the most important. So do take care of yourself and others in the D&T workshops..

Scene 8 (4m 3s)

[Audio] How will you be assess? This year, you will embark on 1 design project and this project will be assess as your End-of-Year Exam..

Scene 9 (4m 14s)

[Audio] This slide shows the tentative breakdown of the assessment. Each week of your lesson is important as your D&T teachers will guide you through this..

Scene 10 (4m 35s)

[Audio] Always be ready for your lesson. These are the items which you will need for all your D&T lesson. As design journal (D&T works) are an important document for your course, we do not want students to leave your design journal under your table. Please always safe keep your design journal. As such, I hope/ you will have a meaningful learning ahead. Learn well children..
